Cyrano de Bergerac
A male character imitates Cyrano de Bergerac by secretly telling another male character what to say to a woman.

- The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis: Season 1, episode 7, "Greater Love Hath No Man" (1959). Dobie offers to help Maynard get a girl to like him by acting as his Cyrano and telling him what to say to her.
- The Munsters: Season 2, episode 23, "Cyrano de Munster" (1966). Herman's co-worker is trying to woo a woman he met on the bus, so he asks Herman to write him some love poems for her. Unfortunately, she uncovers their scheme and falls for Herman instead.
- Too Close for Comfort: Season 6, episode 11, "Cyrano Henry" (1986). Mr. Forester is looking for a woman, so he asks Henry to write a personals ad for him. When a woman writes back, Henry continues corresponding with her as Mr. Forester, writing poetry and quoting Shakespeare to her. She becomes so enamored with him that she wants to meet him in public, so Henry arranges for the two of them to meet at his house so he can tell Mr. Forester what to say.
- Newhart: Season 5, episode 13, "Love Letters in Mud" (1987). Larry is in love with a woman named Jolene, but he's nervous about asking her out, so Michael helps him write her a love letter, but he writes it all in his signature "weird but personable" style, so when Larry receives a positive reply, he worries Jolene really likes Michael and not him.
- Perfect Strangers: Season 2, episode 13, "Since I Lost My Baby" (1987). Larry and Balki want to get Mr. Twinkacetti out of their apartment, so they set up a date between him and Mrs. Twinkacetti, and they go with him and covertly tell him what to say to her to win her back. Unfortunately, Mrs. Twinkacetti catches them in the act.
- ALF: Season 3, episode 8, "Standing in the Shadows of Love" (1989). Jake has a crush on a girl, but he's too shy to talk to her, so Alf offers to write love letters to her for him. When Willie tells him about Cyrano de Bergerac, Alf feels a connection to the character because they both have big noses, and he starts calling himself "Cyrano de Melmac." He even hides in the bushes and whispers words of love for Jake to yell up to the girl's bedroom window.
- Seinfeld: Season 8, episode 2, "The Soul Mate" (1996). Kramer is "gaga" for Jerry's new girlfriend, Pam, so much so that he can't even speak when he's around her, so Newman goes with him to the bookstore where Pam works and whispers romantic things for him to sat from behind a bookshelf.
