Appearances
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 1, episode 11, "1040 or Fight" (1970). Mary is audited by an IRS agent and ends up dating him.
- The Odd Couple: Season 3, episode 16, "The Ides of April" (1973). Felix is flustered when he's summoned to the local IRS office to discuss his tax return, and he accidentally tells the agent about how sloppily Oscar files his taxes, which leads to Oscar being audited.
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 6, episode 12, "Ted's Tax Refund" (1975). After receiving a large tax refund, Ted is notified that he's getting audited, so he begs his friends to lie to the IRS about his deductions.
- Night Court: Season 2, episode 16, "The Gypsy" (1985). Dan is being audited by the IRS, but he's confident his crooked accountant will fool them. Unfortunately, his accountant drops dead in the middle of the audit.
- It's a Living: Season 3, episode 20, "Jump" (1986). When Cassie chides a customer for not leaving a tip, he reveals that he's an IRS agent and audits her.
- The Golden Girls: Season 3, episode 10, "The Audit" (1987). Stan comes over and tells Dorothy that he's being audited, and the IRS wants to review his tax returns going back to when he was married to Dorothy, so Dorothy has to help.
- The Golden Girls: Season 5, episode 9, "Comedy of Errors" (1989). Blanche is getting audited by the IRS, and she reveals to Dorothy that she has never reported that she has three tenants paying her rent.
- Cheers: Season 8, episode 13, "Sammy and the Professor" (1990). Carla is getting audited by the IRS, and Norm agrees to help her scam the system.
- Night Court: Season 8, episode 3, "When Harry Met Margaret" (1990). When Quon Le has a nightmare that she thinks is a premonition of doom for Mac, she insists he wear a fish to help ward off evil, but he refuses and throws the fish away. Seconds later, he receives a certified letter from the IRS saying he's getting audited.
- Dream On: Season 2, episode 11, "Pants on Fire" (1991). Martin gets audited for the year he and Judith separated, so Judith helps him go through his receipts and discovers one for a hotel room Martin used to sleep with one of her colleagues while they were still married.
- Seinfeld: Season 3, episode 2, "The Truth" (1991). Jerry is getting audited, but he's not worried because George is dating an accountant who used to work for the IRS, and she has promised to help him through it. Unfortunately, George breaks up with her and tells her the truth about why, which sends her reeling until she ends up in a mental health facility.
- Wings: Season 4, episode 18, "The Key to Alex" (1992). Roy is getting audited, and he's pulling out all the stops to try to fool the IRS, like claiming 26 children and calling a meal a "business lunch" because he told Antonio to ask him "How's Business?"
- Cheers: Season 11, episode 13, "Norm's Big Audit" (1993). Former accountant, Norm, is getting audited, and he's rushing to dummy up fake receipts to fool the IRS. When Carla hears that his auditor is a woman, she urges Norm to flirt with her show she'll go easy on him.
- The Nanny: Season 4, episode 7, "The Taxman Cometh" (1996). Fran finds out she's being audited by the IRS. She tries to impress the auditor while covering for all the lies she's been telling on her returns, but she ends up getting a $5,000 tax bill.
