A character is interviewed for an article or TV show and pisses off someone they care about by accidentally saying embarrassing or insulting things about them.

- The Dick Van Dyke Show: Season 2, episode 18, "Ray Murdock's X-ray" (1963). Rob is interviewed on a talk show and discusses some Alan Brady Show sketches he wrote based on embarrassing things Laura did.
- The Odd Couple: Season 2, episode 9, "The Odd Couple Meet Their Host" (1971). Felix helps Oscar get on the David Steinberg Show, and Oscar is so nervous he can barely speak. He only loosens up when he starts talking about Felix. Soon he has the audience in stitches at all of Felix's annoying habits.
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 3, episode 2, "What Is Mary Richards Really Like?" (1972). An infamously snarky newspaper columnist interviews Mary and misconstrues what she says about Lou and the newsroom.
- Mork & Mindy: Season 3, episode 20, "I Heard It Through the Morkvine" (1981). Mindy's boss wants to give her a promotion as the host of a new show, but it's a gossip show, and Mindy doesn't feel right dishing dirt on people. Mork is eager to help Mindy get the promotion, so he takes her place and tells embarrassing rumors about Mindy and all their friends.
- Newhart: Season 1, episode 20, "You're Homebody 'til Somebody Loves You" (1983). Dick and Joanna are interviewed for a magazine, and Dick puts his foot in his mouth and makes Joanna sound like a lazy "homebody" who just sits around the house doing nothing.
- Buffalo Bill: Season 2, episode 3, "The Interview" (1984). A TV reporter interviews members of the staff about Bill, clearly digging for dirt, and they all slip up and say disparaging things about him.
- Cheers: Season 4, episode 8, "Love Thy Neighbor" (1985). Sam is interviewed on the radio, and when asked about some of his grilfriends, he mentions a "little love bunny" who brought a book to a baseball game, and it's clear to everyone at Cheers that he's talking about Diane. Diane is so angry that she writes an apology for Sam to deliver on the air.
- Newhart: Season 3, episode 14, "Once I had a Secret Love" (1985). When Joanna joins Dick on a special Valentine's Day episode of his show, he broadcasts to all of Vermont that she's afraid of dust bunnies, leading to her giving him the silent treatment while the locals taunt her.
- Head of the Class: Season 1, episode 3, "Charliegate" (1986). Dennis is late with an article for the school paper, so he says he'll interview Mr. Moore. He lies his way into Mr. Moore's apartment and gets him to talk about Dr. Samuels and the other students in the class, then distorts what he says to make it sound insulting.
