A character insists that a visiting friend or relative stay in their home rather than a hotel despite the visitor's protests.

- The Dick Van Dyke Show: Season 1, episode 26, "I Am My Brother's Keeper" (1962). Rob's brother, Stacey, comes to visit, and Laura insists he stay at their house, even though Rob tells her he would rather stay at a hotel.
- The Munsters: Season 1, episode 9, "Knock Wood, Here Comes Charlie" (1964). When Herman's brother, Charlie comes to visit and says he's going to find a hotel, Lily insists he stay with them instead.
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 4, episode 3, "Rhoda's Sister Gets Married" (1973). When Rhoda and Mary go to New York for Rhoda's sister's wedding, Rhoda's parents refuse to let Mary stay in the hotel room she booked and insist she stay at their apartment and sleep on the couch.
- The Odd Couple: Season 3, episode 23, "The Murray Who Came to Dinner" (1973). Murray's wife throws him out, and Felix insists he stay with him and Oscar, even though Murray is happy to stay at a hotel instead.
- The Bob Newhart Show: Season 2, episode 13, "My Wife Belongs to Daddy" (1973). Emily's parents come to visit, and Emily insists they stay with her and Bob and sleep in their bed, but her parents had already checked into a hotel.
- The Bob Newhart Show: Season 4, episode 12, "Mothers and Sons and Father" (1975). Bob's mother's house is being painted, and apparently this means she can't stay there. She tells Emily she's going to a hotel, but Emily keeps refuses to let her and insists she stay with her and Bob.
- Rhoda: Season 1, episode 25, "Along Comes Mary" (1975). Mary shows up at Rhoda's apartment out of the blue, and Rhoda insists she stay with her instead of in a hotel. When Mary turns Rhoda down, Brenda insists she stay with her.
- Diff'rent Strokes: Season 1, episode 19, "The Trip: Part 1" (1979). The Drummonds fly to Oregon to meet Mr. Drummond's old army buddy Larry, and Larry insists that all five of them stay in his small house with him and his two daughters instead of the lush hotel that Mr. Drummond could certainly afford.
- It's a Living: Season 6, episode 6, "Rear Window" (1988). Howard tells Nancy that his mother is coming to town, and Nancy insists that she stay with them instead of a hotel.
